Your website is your chance to build up your customer base, you should utilize the power of social networking to interact with your customer in a positive way. Mobile devices are becomming an important factor in the marketing of websites and email campaigns can be a great way to market your brand to new or existing customers. Your website design can be an important influencing factor for potential customers and should create a lasting positive impression of your brand, dont be afraid to stand out, the most original websites are sometimes the most memorable.
Keep it simple
: Presenting a potential customer with too many options can lead to hesitation and ultimately indecisiveness - This means that having a small number of offers can be easier to choose from than tens of different options to choose. Decide on who exactly you are trying to target and break those down into manageable categories.
The hard-sell:
Having a cramped homepage full of promotions can sometimes serve to discourage users to buy into your brand, that is because you can take away from a users experience. Allow a user to explore for themselves and the experience should ultimately lead a customer to perceive your brand as a positive one.
Plan ahead:
Your key selling points may not be the same now as they will be at some point in the future, think ahead and plan to have short-term promotions on your website. Failing to keep crucial real-estate on your homepage for this purpose can lead to deterioration of your initial branding and come across as being rushed or ill-attempted.
Content is king:
You must give your users a reason to keep visiting the site, a website which makes the user work to find the information they want will not be as successful as one who does. Keep your information valid and up to date – this will give a good impression with potential customers and can do wonders for your SEO.
Navigation structure
: The first thing you should do before designing a site is agree on your sitemap, content and navigation. Navigation should be kept structurally simple and easy to use. Hard to navigate websites will frustrate users and they won’t be able to find the information they need, this can lead to a loss of revenue and hurt your branding in the long-term.
Social networking
: Your user base is an important factor in the popularity of your website; more and more websites are utilizing the power of social networking to promote their websites. For example when a user finds a particular special offer or promotion that they are interested in, having the ability to share that with their friends would help to popularize the site through online social networks.
Stand out from the crowd
: You can be the trend-setter and gain a reputation for your brand by being original. Copying other websites is a basic starting point for any design, but that doesn’t mean you need to replicate everything you see. The most original websites are sometimes the most memorable, and creating an impression with potential customers is always the first step in a positive relationship.
Multi-layered device compatibility:
The more accessible your site is, the more potential you have for possible customers. Consider having your site completely
optimised for iPhone users
, or having an alternative for customers to view where certain elements are not available such as javascript, or flash.
Download speed:
If your website is taking too long to download then users can become frustrated and leave. Keep your images optimised and only choose a small number of images for each pages if you have rotating images in your header. The majority of users will not spend long enough on a single page to view all of them.
Easy access
: Always have your contact details and book now panels visible at all times, I can’t count the number of times I have visited a site solely to find the contact number, only to find it hidden away in some obscure section of the website. This could ultimately lead to a loss of revenue; some users could give up trying to find your phone number and go somewhere else!
